Mindful Career Parenting

From being lost in our Careers to Guiding Teens on their Career Planning

We want to share with you the journey that brought us here.

Sugi & Prasad

We were both “perfect” children in our families - who always did what was expected of us. We excelled academically, won awards, and took part in as many extracurricular activities as we could.

From a young age, we felt that achieving in every area of life was our responsibility. Our families were incredibly proud, and we were deeply driven by a desire to make them even prouder.

Both of us were awarded Gold Medals in our undergraduate programs and were honored as the Best Outgoing Students of our college—a recognition of both our academic achievements and our commitment to the college community. These were achievements we cherished.

With the love and admiration of our families, we felt unstoppable, as though life was a well-planned journey and we simply had to follow the road that had been laid out for us.

Career Beginnings: Following the Crowd

Given our academic records, there was little question about what careers we’d pursue. In our families and communities, a successful career often meant becoming a doctor or an engineer. Those were the “respected” professions, the ones that offered stability, financial security, and honor. So, naturally, these became our choices too.

There wasn’t really a discussion about other options—it was just assumed, and we embraced it. Fueled by our need to achieve and our families’ pride, we embarked on our professional paths with enthusiasm.

With our drive to achieve greater things in life, we aimed for the best in our careers. Prasad graduated from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad and became a management consultant. Suganya built her expertise in technology and became a Data Quality Engineer.

Rapid Growth, Yet Feeling Something Was Missing

Our careers started out well. We excelled just as we did in school, quickly earning recognition and hitting one milestone after another. Promotions, praise, professional accolades—all of it felt good.

But, over time, a strange emptiness began to creep in. We couldn’t put a finger on it, but something wasn’t right. Success didn’t feel like we’d expected it to. We were doing everything we thought we were supposed to be doing, and yet, there was a sense that something was missing.

For years, we ignored this feeling. After all, who were we to question a life that seemed to have it all? We had stable careers, respect in our fields, and the approval of our families.

From the outside, everything looked perfect. But inside, we felt more and more like we were on a treadmill—working hard, moving fast, but not really going anywhere meaningful.

The Wake-Up Call: Realizing We Were Climbing the Wrong Ladder

The real turning point came when we each hit a particularly difficult period in our careers. Sugi was leading a high-stakes project with tight deadlines and immense pressure. Day after day, she worked late nights, sacrificing her personal life for the sake of the project. When it was finally completed, she expected to feel a profound sense of accomplishment. Instead, there was a strange hollowness. Despite all the effort, she felt disconnected from the work itself, questioning if it really mattered.

At the same time, Prasad was also feeling the weight of his career. Though he had climbed the ranks and achieved everything he’d set out to do, he felt strangely detached. There was no joy in reaching each milestone, only a sense of duty. It was as if he was following a script written by someone else, hitting all the “right” notes but missing the meaning.

And that’s when it hit us: we were climbing a ladder that didn’t feel like ours. We had built careers, but we hadn’t built purpose. We were successful, but we weren’t fulfilled.

And we realized we weren’t alone—many of our colleagues, too, seemed to be going through the motions, achieving without a sense of true direction. It was a hard truth to confront, but we knew we couldn’t ignore it any longer.

Seeking a New Path: From Success to Significance

With this realization, we each embarked on a journey of self-discovery. We started asking questions that we had never considered before.

What truly makes us feel alive?
What kind of work would bring us joy, not just a paycheck?

We attended workshops, read books, and sought out mentors who could help us understand ourselves and our purpose more deeply.

One question from a mentor struck us deeply: If you could help others avoid the struggles you’ve faced, would you do it?

We both realized how much we wanted to share the lessons we’d learnt. Looking back, we wished someone had helped us understand career choices beyond the typical expectations.

We wanted to help others avoid the feeling of being “stuck” on a path that didn’t resonate with their true selves. That’s when the idea of coaching teenagers and their parents began to take shape.

What if we could guide young people to make career choices based on their own interests, strengths, and values—before they spent years on a path that didn’t fulfill them?

The Birth of Our Purpose: Helping Teenagers and Parents Find Clarity

Once this idea took root, we couldn’t shake it. We started talking to teenagers and parents, eager to understand their challenges, fears, and dreams.

What we found was eye-opening: many teenagers were just as confused as we had been, struggling to make sense of a sea of career options. Meanwhile, their parents, while deeply invested in their futures, often felt just as lost, unsure how to guide their children in a world that had changed dramatically from the one they grew up in.

These conversations reaffirmed our purpose. We realized that career guidance is not simply about making a practical choice—it’s about building a meaningful life.

We wanted to help teenagers explore careers in a way that resonated with their unique strengths and passions, and to help parents support this process in a constructive, open-minded way.

So, we began designing programs that combined our own life lessons with tools for self-exploration and practical guidance. We wanted to create a journey that would empower teenagers to define their paths consciously, with their parents as partners, not just decision-makers.

And as we started offering our programs, something incredible happened: we felt fulfilled. Watching young people discover their potential, seeing parents embrace new perspectives on career choices—this wasn’t just work. It was our calling.

That day, we made a commitment to fully embrace our mission. We were no longer just “Sugi and Prasad.” We were mentors with a purpose—to help teenagers and parents make career decisions with clarity, confidence, and joy.

We knew we wanted to build a movement that would reach not just a few, but millions, transforming the way families approach career planning.

Creating Mindful Career Parenting: A Movement of Clarity and Connection

Our approach, which we now call Mindful Career Parenting, is about much more than choosing a career. It’s about fostering understanding, communication, and respect between teenagers and their parents. We believe that every teenager has unique strengths and dreams, and that a fulfilling career can only be built by honoring these individual traits.

In our programs, we help families explore career options together, allowing parents to understand their teens’ aspirations while teenagers learn to think critically about their futures.

We’ve seen incredible transformations—teenagers who found their confidence, parents who learned to support their children’s dreams without fear, and families that grew closer through this journey.

This is our story. It’s a journey of personal discovery, of leaving behind expectations to find our true purpose. And it’s a journey we’re honored to share with each family we work with, each teenager we guide, and each parent we support.
